For over 60 years, this has been one of our flagship services, but in recent years given the demand for renewable energy sources, we have expanded our portfolio to also provide biomass fuel to customers. Why Biomass Fuel is So Important Biomass fuel is a renewable energy source that can be used to small groups of homes, large individual houses, schools and glasshouses plus poultry huts. In 2014 the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) in the UK Government introduced the Renewable Heating Incentive which offered savings on heating people or businesses who could demonstrate the use of renewable energy sources. To this end, the Biomass Supplier List was devised, a U.K wide listing of all providers of biomass fuel, with P.H Winterton and Son the flagship company for the West Midlands and beyond. Turning Waste into Renewable Fuel P.H Winterton and Son are well-equipped to deal with any demands for sawmill waste, with a fleet of 10 trucks and three vans ready and waiting to collect your joinery waste. We have options available for both small and large joinery outfits with a 20-foot hook-lift filter skip for smaller firms and a 20-foot open-top waste skip for off-cuts wood chips, pallets and general waste. The reason why Weston Sawmill’s sawmill waste collection service has proved so successful is the number of relationships we have established with joinery firms all over the country. Our premises are based in Staffordshire, but our service stretches as far south as Portsmouth, Southampton and Hampshire plus spots in Cornwall and Dover. Chopping Away at the Competition One of our long-standing clients is Chipmunk South West Bulk, based in Taunton in the south-west of England. Having been in business for over 35 years, Chipmunk specialises in manufacturing high-quality wood-based products such as animal and cubicle bedding, riding and turnout surfaces plus biomass fuel and horticulture products for the peat manufacturing trade. P.H Winterton’s tipper units are 140 cubic yards, making them similar to walking bulk trays and able to carry a large amount of sawmill waste from sites. For smaller joinery outfits, we offer a 20-foot open-top waste skip for off-cuts, wood chips, pallets and general waste. We get calls from joineries all the time and bring one of our tipper units to their site to be filled and then returned to us for biomass fuel and animal bedding. P.H Winterton is always looking to become more environmentally friendly, which is the reason all of our vehicles are tracked to reduce fuel consumption, where possible. We are also actively looking at ways to reduce or plastic and energy use in all operations. Why We Use Sawmill Waste for Biomass Fuel All of the timber we use for biomass fuel is A-grade, meaning it has no contaminants; making it very popular for heating chicken houses plus heating buildings and warehouses and drying products such as timber. Electric Sawmill Waste Collection in Leicestershire

Sawmill waste collection in Leicestershire offered by P.H Winterton and Son is the eco-friendliest way to produce electricity. We are firm believers in waste not being wasted, which is why we use sawmill waste to produce biomass fuel (which creates electricity) plus we can use it for comfortable bedding for various animals. How Sawmill Waste Creates Biomass Fuel Here is your basic guide to generating electricity through biomass fuel – The most common way biomass fuel becomes electricity is through the combustion of wooded materials to heat water and produces steam which can spin turbines. Another method of electricity production is using excess steam from biomass plants for on-site manufacturing processes or heating, which can boost your energy efficiency. The wood used for biomass fuel can contain around 18 megajoules (MJ) per kilogram of energy when dried before use. To get a better idea of the equivalent, a kilogram of cut grass contains about 4 million joules (1 million joules = 1 megajoule), which is just slightly more than the kilowatt-hour used in the energy retail market. The UK is fast moving towards the use of biomass fuels instead of fossil fuels such as coal. Here are some of the biggest biomass projects going on at the moment – • Drax Power Station (North Yorkshire) – The largest producer of carbon dioxide in the country has been converting its coal-fired boilers to use biomass fuel instead. • Blackburn Meadows Cogeneration Plant (South Yorkshire) – Harnessing excess heat from combustion this facility provides heating to nearby business through the district heating system • Templeborough Biomass Plant – Opened in August 2017 this plant provides energy for 78,000 homes which saves up to 150,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. • Kent Biomass Power Station – This station which opened in the summer of 2018, services 50,000 homes. • Tees Renewable Energy Plant – Due to finish in 2020 and costing £650m this will be the largest biomass plant in the world, producing enough electricity for 600,00 homes.
